At time of reporting (2020), there was a concluded investigation/prosecution related to this case in the country of origin (Turkmenistan).
The legal basis for international cooperation was Swiss domestic law on mutual legal assistance.
Assets returned
There were special arrangements regarding monitoring and disbursement of returned assets. It was agreed that the returned assets be used for a UNDP project aimed at improving health services of through the cost-free distribution of drugs for the benefit of the whole population of Turkmenistan.
The use of the returned assets is to be monitored by UNDP and the government of Turkmenistan, the modalities of which are regulated by the agreement as well as by the designated project document. In addition, the agreement stipulates reporting and accountability duties of UNDP, the government of Turkmenistan and any other entity involved in the project.
The agreement is not publicly available, but a request may be submitted.
