The confiscated assets comprise of approximately $700,000 Real Property in Maryland and approximately $400,000 in Brokerage Account (Massachusetts).
Specific factors that helped make the asset return possible in this case were in this case, the government of Nigeria provided evidence which enabled the United States to recover the funds which were beneficially owned by a deceased governor of Bayelsa State in Nigeria. The United States have been working for several years to identify an appropriate way to return the funds for the benefit of the people of Bayelsa State and hope to conclude these discussions soon on a method for return based on GFAR principles.
